Better Representation for the people of Nebraska Congressional District 2

I am a retired eye surgeon, and I have lived and worked in Nebraska for over 25 years. Growing up as one of 12 children working on the family farm I learned early the value of hard work and respect for others. I believe strongly in the Constitution, the rule of Law, and protection of human rights and freedoms.

I'm not a career politician. I don't have big money or a big political machine behind me. However, I have been interested in politics for many years, I have a lot of experience in building businesses from the ground up (ones that don't go bankrupt!) and I like making things work and making things better.

I can no longer stand to be idle while everything that I love about this country - its independence, its diversity, its ambition, its ability to work hard, but also its tradition of compassion and caring for others at home and abroad - and ordinary human decency - is being destroyed in front of our eyes.

Our farmers, workers and small businesses, the safety of our citizens and residents, our Educational system, our Judiciary, our Public Health system, our constitutional checks and balances, our military and veterans, our workers and Unions, our social safety net, our warning and disaster response systems, our security in the air, the health of our women and children, our national security and our foreign relations are all at risk. Just to name a few....

Our President recently said in an interview that he "doesn't know" if he has to uphold and protect our Constitution. This should be a red flag to ALL patriotic Americans, regardless of party - this is now beyond politics.

Everything that makes our country TRULY great is under attack.  And all to give tax breaks to billionaire donors and big corporations at the people's expense. â€‹â€‹

AND OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES SIT IDLY BY AND LET IT ALL HAPPEN!

They may say one thing, but they do another...

THEY ARE NOT ONLY COMPLACENT, THEY ARE COMPLICIT!

It is time to stop thinking as parties and start thinking as patriots. This is beyond "right" and "left". â€‹

It is time to stop play political games at the expense of our American values.

It is time to start working together for the future of our Democracy.

A CALL TO ACTION:

Right now, your representatives are voting for a reconciliation bill. They are doing anything they can to give huge tax breaks to the super-wealthy while slashing essential programs and services, including Medicaid and SNAP (Food Stamps). They tell you that the tax breaks are for everyone, but do not listen to their flag-waving rhetoric. They are only serving their paymasters, not the voters.

To put this in perspective, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates the following in tax "relief" for Americans in the current bill:

Top 1%: $64,770.

Middle 20%: $1,290.

Bottom 20%: $90.

Put pressure on them. Email, write, call, or go in person to let them know that you know what they are doing - and you're not going to put up with it! Do it now before it is too late.

TARIFFS:

Here's the thing that finally pushed me over the edge and made me run for for Congress

Tariffs are taxes. To be clear: The Republicans and the Administration are lying to the people. Consumers and businesses pay the price of tariffs on imported goods - not the countries who are sending the goods to us. This means that everything -- from cars, to homes, to the fertilizers that grow our crops, to groceries and the sneakers we put on our kids' feet, and lots more -- is costing more for regular consumers.

The existing trade agreements with our closest neighbors - Canada and Mexico - have been destroyed and called "unfair" by the President and punitive tariffs unilaterally imposed. He made those deals himself during his first term. Given this, why would any country wish to make an agreement with the USA when it is apparent that we can no longer be trusted? A mafia-style shakedown doesn't really work well in international affairs. The world is moving on and leaving the USA behind.

The billionaire donors don't care. They can afford it. We can't. The instability, uncertainty and loss of confidence it causes here and abroad will outlast any individual "deals" the President makes. As long as their paymasters get their "breaks", they don't care what else is broken.

Don Bacon knows better. By our laws, Congress has the right and the duty to taxpayers to oversee and regulate all taxes and tariffs, and they have deliberately chosen to neglect their duty. They swore an oath to the Constitution, not to a political party, not to their donors, and not to the President. They are making a mockery of the system of checks and balances established by our founding fathers. THEY HAVE BETRAYED OUR TRUST

And it gets worse: the rule change that would have brought control back to Congress lost by ONE VOTE-- HIS! He knows what is right and he votes for what is wrong. The hypocrisy is jaw-dropping.

Why? He doesn't have the courage to stand up and be counted.

Who is he representing? Not the voters of CD2!

If Don Bacon can't do his job, he should resign. WE DESERVE BETTER!
